In DevOps
A numbered door (0–65535) on an IP address. Each service listens on its own: SSH 22, HTTP 80, HTTPS 443, PostgreSQL 5432.
Learn it properly · DevOpsLesson 2: Networking Basics: IP, Ports, TCP/UDP and FirewallsHow a browser request actually finds and reaches your server. The layer Vercel hides completely, and the one you must understand before EC2 makes any sense. In System Design
A number that identifies a program on a machine. Example: 80 = HTTP, 443 = HTTPS, 22 = SSH, 5432 = PostgreSQL.
Learn it properly · System DesignLesson 1: What Happens When You Type a URL and Press Enter? The one second between pressing Enter and seeing a page hides a DNS lookup, a trip through a dozen routers, two handshakes and a server doing real work. Every later lesson zooms into one part of that journey. In Networking for Developers
A number from 0 to 65535 that picks one program on a machine; IP finds the machine, the port finds the program.
